Time for Thyme

Thyme is a plant that has about 350 varieties. It has been used by man for thousands of years, it is among the traditional ones for us Bulgarians. It is used for both culinary and medicinal purposes.

In ancient times, thyme was given for sadness and melancholy, to restore tone, positivity towards life, for new vitality, even for courage...

Thyme plant belongs to the mint family. Its flowers are small, in various shades of purple, pink and white. Despite their tiny size, most of them secrete an enticing nectar that bees use to produce equally fragrant honey. The leaves can be of different shapes and shades of green.

Different types of thyme have their own specific taste and aroma, which can resemble the aroma of camphor, eucalyptus, lemongrass, celery, orange, tangerine, cumin, pine, etc. The aroma is due to the specific essential oil in the specific plant - it is not by chance that thyme is used as a raw material for the production of aromatic oils. Because of its aroma, thyme is also used as a natural means of repelling cabbage plant pests and beetles.

Thyme essential oil is used by the cosmetic industry in toothpastes, mouthwashes, soaps, perfumes, cosmetic products, as well as used by the pharmaceutical industry in the production of antiseptic ointments and other means.

Lemon thyme and common thyme are mostly used for culinary purposes. The ancient Romans used to add thyme in their spirits and prepared a special dish with cheese. To this day, it is added as a spice in feasts, soups, desserts, in marinades. It is like an ancient characteristic of traditional cuisines in Western Asia and Europe.

Therefore, without further ado, let me tell you some important facts about Thyme with the intention of convincing you -it is great adding this plant to your life, which will no doubt become soon a favorite addition to your daily well-being.

Thyme is very widespread in the treatment of the respiratory infections, as it is a disinfectant for the lungs and is useful in:

- Cough;

- Asthma;

- Bronchitis;

- Laryngitis;

- Nose infections.

It is also used to treat physical and mental weaknesses such as:

- An effective remedy for depression, chronic fatigue and lack of concentration;

- Improves blood circulation;

- Improves memory;

- Increases blood pressure when its level is too low.

As a powerful antibacterial and antiseptic agent, thyme essential oil is also widely used in hand sanitizer solutions.

The infusion of thyme with honey and lemon helps to treat the symptoms:

- Flu;

- Sore throat;

- A cold;

- Cough.

Here's how to make a thyme infusion:

First, heat water and once it starts boiling, remove from heat. Then take out the required amount of thyme and leave for 10 minutes.( 1 tablespoon for half a littre of water)

Thyme is not toxic when consumed in accordance with established doses. The use of thyme essential oil should be more limited and should never be used by pregnant women, people with ulcers or heart problems.

Thyme is not toxic when consumed in accordance with established doses but could cause damage if used with negligence.
