The eye of Nazar - that's the name of the blue beads made like eyes, which each of us has seen and probably owns.

The blue eye or "nazar bonjuk", as it is also called, is one of the most common amulets in Turkey, Syria, Egypt, Armenia, Iran, Afghanistan, Greece, Cyprus and Azerbaijan. Wearing the little blue eyes is a millennial practice. They are often exchanged as gifts and are used to decorate cars, offices and houses to protect them from bad luck. It is believed that the glass eye sees all evil and is able to drive it away.

In the past, people with blue eyes were thought to have "a shadow drawing eyesight" and the ability to drain energy from another person (some sort of energy vampire). It is for this reason that wearing an eye-shaped amulet is believed to ward off harmful power by "staring" directly at the "energy vampire". It is believed that when the Eye of Nazar cracks or breaks, it has taken on evil and must be replaced with a new one.

The Eye of Nazar is highly revered in Egypt. It has been used as a powerful talisman since the time of the ancient Egyptian cultures. One legend says that when the Egyptian god Horus opened his eyes, light spread over the world. Therefore, it is believed that the eye, in addition to driving away evil forces, also has the ability to attract good and light.

In our country and among a number of other southern European people, there is still a belief about the real existence of "evil eyes" that are capable of taking away human energy and causing misfortunes. Therefore, wearing the eye of Nazar is not unusual.

Apart from the superstitions and beliefs about wearing the blue eye, it is also related to its widespread use as a souvenir for tourists. In Turkey, for example, eyes of Nazar are sold and put on - and on - anything they can attach to. Even today, old master glassmakers in Izmir can still be found making these blue beads.

The origin of blue eyes is unknown. It is thought to be associated with the all-seeing eye of Horus, and others call it the "Eye of the Prophet" or the "Eye of Allah". Therefore, we all believe in the power of this talisman. And in that by wearing it, we receive the positive energy we need and are protected from any sort of energy draining.

Some place the "blue eye" on a red wool thread- close to their solar plexus, some wear it on the neck as a protection of the throat chakra… in the house the blue eye is always placed facing the front door that whoever walked in the house was "scanned " by it and any unwanted energy is eliminated.

Of course you can decide for yourself if the blue eye has a place in your house…anyway it is still here after over thousands of years…
